Reload Fitness, and Team Reload, popped up on the scene very recently, and have made a big splash – next year they will be national sponsors for the Spartan Race series, and they will be fielding a team at Fenway that includes our very own Nele Schulze.
They are a local company, supporting a local race, fielding local runners – I really wanted to find out who they are, what they were about, and where they are going … I approached Levi Smith, one of the founders – and his response was awesome – in his own words:
Thanks Paul and New England Spahtens for inviting myself and Reload Fitness to have the opportunity to tell you about who we are and what we are all about, how we got started and where we are going!
First and foremost is everyone aware of The Fenway Park Spartan Race and the fact that we are bringing a team of incredibly exceptional Men and Women to Race on Team Reload Fitness? Let me tell you, when we decided to put a team together for this race I thought we would get a number of submissions from a all different types of individuals who have been through all types of situations. Once we started to get submissions to race on our team I was floored. I called up my best friend and business partner (Garrett) and told him I don’t know how we are going to make decisions on who is going to be on the team. The submissions we received were right out of a book, passionate with a purpose, heartfelt and all deserving of earning a spot on our team…
So, how did Reload Fitness come about, Garrett and I became friends quickly in college or I would say I was the guy in everyone’s face with a lot of energy and Garrett was the kid willing to put up with me and teach me a few things. But it all started in San Diego, California in college. We bonded and ever since we knew we wanted to do big things together. But, what was it going to be, the real answer is we weren’t sure but we knew whatever it was going to be would encompass three things.
- Passion
- Making a difference in the world
- Supporting our past, present, future and wounded service members
Although we didn’t know what exactly we were going to develop as a business we knew these three foundations would guide us in the right direct. We discussed this, that and we were always like no that’s not it. Finally I called Garrett and said why aren’t we developing a business around fitness? It’s the one thing we are both passionate about and all of our 3 critical foundations fall right in line. Then we were off, we created our supplement, vitamin and nutrition website with unique programs to bring to the market place and this all started in 2009. Ever since we have been working hard, growing our family and continuing to develop our product line
Then one day our vision all came together, I decided randomly to sign-up for my first Spartan Race at the Amesbury, MA Race, a Sprint Triathlon and a 62 mile bicycle ride called “The Last Gasp”. That was it, I was committed to completing these three races. First was the Amesbury Spartan Race, I was going to complete the Hurricane Heat and The Sprint in the same day. Oh and volunteer. That was it, I was hooked, I wanted to run again, I wanted to comeback for Sunday. I called Garrett, I called my wife (Amy) and they said slow down, slow down. I continued to complete my goals and events, and then I decided it was time to just go for it and complete the The Spartan Beast in Vermont. I spoke with my family and arranged for my son to be watched so I could make the trip and push myself. Then I found out I was chosen to Race on Team Dial for Men, “are you kidding me”! Clearly I couldn’t believe it, met up with the team on the chilly race day and we were off. After a number of grueling hours, forgetting to bring food to keep me sustained we crossed the finishline. That was the moment of no return for Reload Fitness, Garrett and I decided this was exactly what Reload Fitness was all about.
Pushing ourselves to the limits, to be better, no matter who we are or what we do for a living. There is always a way that we can live healthier, be fit, stay fit and ultimately live to make a difference in the world. I decided I was going to go for the Trifecta, I left home at 12 O’Clock Midnight and headed for the Midwest Spartan. Stopping to pick-up one of my best friends in Ohio and taking him to his first Spartan Race and a Super at that! Well, that Deer that ran out into the freeway in front of us stopped us from making it to the race, getting our medals and the trifecta. What I will tell you is it won’t stop us for long because this weekend is The Fenway Park Spartan Sprint and guess what, Reload Fitness will be there for our first event as a Sponsor and we are looking forward to be a National Sponsor for the 2013 Season. Come find us at each and every race, email us to be picked as the next team member of The Reload Fitness Team and race for free and experience something you will only want to pass on to the next person you meet or know that has never completed a Spartan Race! This is an experience of a lifetime.
We are here for you, we want you to Get Fit and Stay Fit. So please check us out on Facebook or our website, call us directly and speak with Garrett, Amy or myself and most definitely email us. We encourage you to become part of the Reload Fitness Family!
Oh by the way, there is a special discount code coming your way in the near future New England Spahtens!!
Cheers,
Levi
