From 6am Friday, until almost noon on Monday – the Summer Death Race was non-stop.
The athletes chopped wood, did burpees, built stair cases that went up a mountain, gambled against the house to save themselves from gnarly barbed wire crawls and mile long swims. They carried rocks for miles.
There was heartbreak, and there was elation.
Every single person who stood up to the Death Race is an amazing individual. Inspirational.
Our little running clubs provisional results (note – these may change as news comes in)
Nele Schulz – DNF
Keith Glass – FINISH
Sean Meehan – FINISH
Junyong Pak – DNF
Jane Coffey – BIB finish
James Horgan – FINISH
Eric Matta – FINISH
Andrew Hostetler – FINISH
Tim Francis – DNF
Chris Irving – BIB finish
Stu Klaas (PA import) – DNF
Jonathan Albon (Brit import) – DNF
Joe Benoit – DNF
This list is actually short some names: Josh Fiore Finisher. Joe Benoit: DNF. This also makes us by far the largest OCR team to enter the DR and the most #of finishers 6 and I believe I'm still short some names.
Each one deserves a Dos Equis ~ When they sign up for a race they don't ask where the finish line is.
I will buy a beer for each and everyone of them just to listen to the stories any day of the week.
We need a Spahten Deathrace BBQ just to hear about this epic weekend form the participants, volunteers and crew.

This is an event I don't ever want to do, it's ridiculousness and endless limit pushing is far beyond my grasps of comprehension. But to know these people personally, people with not only different training regiments, but varying lives at home, knowing that they have the mental strength to even step up to the plate and sign up, show up, and put all else aside to push through days of torture, is amazing to me. I remember the first time meeting some of the NE Spahtens (then the MA Spahtans), just as I was starting my OCR life and looking up to them in amazement. My mind is just blown now, OCR idols in my mind, and in a place that I never plan to be. You all are awesome.
Just attempting this is awesome You all rock Hold you heads high.
It's especially heart braking for the people who DNF'd so close to the finish. Death Race 2014 training starts here!
Spahten's repped hard and whether there was a DNF or finish, you are all inspirations in my book!
Every single person with the stones to sign up and show up is a winner and a hero in my book. You are all amazing.
