Team Mike McNeil – you may have seen them running with us in their black and red shirts … we first crossed paths at the Fenway Spartan Race in 2012, and again at the Renegade Run – as more and more members of Team Mike McNeil joined in with our group, and attended races with us – yeah, these guys were our kinds of people.

Keep an eye out for more of the good work Team Mike McNeil is doing to raise money for cancer, and some more news on how the New England Spahten community can help out.
True to the Spartan lifestyle, Mike McNeil was a warrior in his own right. Even after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at the age of 10, Mike continued to live life to the fullest. He was strong. He was brave. He never gave up. Even after his passing in 2009 at the age of 27, Mike continues to be an inspiration to his family, friends, and even complete strangers.
Team Mike McNeil is a small but growing group of Obstacle Course Race (OCR) runners that was formed to continue with the charitable spirit of the Mike McNeil Organization. As with every endeavor of the MMO, the Team aims spread awareness and raise money for cancer research at Massachusetts General Hospital in hopes of one day finally finding a cure for this awful disease that has taken so many of our loved ones much too soon.
The 3 founding members (Scott Houghtaling, Mike Hastie, and Mark Gearin), as well as several other members of Team Mike McNeil, are in the same UMass-Lowell fraternity (Sigma Tau Gamma) as Mike McNeil. The Team runs obstacle races in Mike’s honor, using his 17-year battle against cancer as inspiration and a reminder to never give up.
